And now for the price/prize... ;)
I've been listening around at the friends who still haven't got infected with the Mac enough, and they're basically all saying the same thing... They'd switch to the Mac if either the MacBook came as a lower-priced model (with maybe a core solo processor or at 1.67 GHz, would be perfectly do-able for Apple...) or if Apple let people buy a Mac mini for cheap again (again: this would and should be doable). Maybe we'll see something like that near the end of the year? Then again, I'm just guessing that Apple is more than content with how the minis and MacBooks are selling, so they just might not want to go there... What do you think?

And they don't _have_ to in my opinion. Apple selects which price points they target. What my friends are currently missing are price points Apple was already _in_ some time ago. While the new intel Mac mini's entry level price point of 599 USD offers more than the original Mac mini's 499 USD price point, it's just not the same to lure people into buying one. Before, they'd think 499 and walk away with a machine that probably cost them 650 USD. They'd pay 650 USD today, too, but they never walk _in_ in the first place.
With notebooks it's a bit different. I think Apple can and _should_ offer an even more basic version. The only thing they'd have to change was the processor. I'm sure they could squeeze another 100 bucks out of the MacBook's price if they offered it with a 1.5 GHz core solo processor as well. Most people would probably still go for the 1.83 GHz core duo model (because it'd really _be_ faster for not much more money), but more people would talk _into_ a store selling Apple's products, lured by the price.
However: Apple currently has more than enough attention from potential customers due to the iPod's ongoing success. So maybe it's better for Apple _not_ to fight on price.
