iTunes 5 first look...
It's terrible. I'm talking about the UI, of course. It looks as if they've tried to find something that could better be reproduced in Windows. Ugly. Really. I don't know how to put it. They took what they've done wrong in Mail.app 2.0, took what's been wrong with iTunes for Windows and voilà: Its bastard, iTunes 5. Hooray.
Comments:
I completely dissagree, and this is coming from a UI freak. I think it is a wonderful refinement. Stremlined is a great word to describe it. They got rid of the extra area that wasn't necessary while keeping it very simple and intuitive. Very efficient design.

I've got to say, I agree with fryke. It seems to me that the new iTunes has been very poorly designed, and has introduced yet another interface style to the mixed bag Mac OS X 10.4 has become.

All I'm looking for is a little more care in the UI design, and some level of consistancy so I'm not left having to hunt around for the controls. One simple example: the resize control for the Playlists bar in iTunes 5 is at the top; in Mail 2 it's at the bottom. All these little inconsistancies are starting to mount up, and IMHO, are very quietly poisoning a superb OS.

Oh, and don't get me started on the Finder. Is anyone else sick of waiting an age for the Load / Save dialogue boxes to appear?
